Chris Walker was asked to be the Musical Director of a national tour of Godspell eighteen months of leaving university.

Subsequently the show transferred to the Phoenix Theatre and since that time Chris has been associated with many West End shows including; Oliver! Side By Side By Sondheim, My Fair Lady, Tomfoolery, Dear Anyone, The Boy Friend, Hot Shoe Shuffle and Out Of The Blue. On Broadway the success of Me and My Girl has resulted in Chris's work reaching an audience across the Atlantic with orchestrations of The Knife for the New York Shakespeare Festival Theatre and The Secret Garden for the Virginia Stage Company and more recently for his role as Orchestrator/Musical Supervisor in the Stephen Sondheim musical Putting It Together for Cameron Mackintosh at the Manhattan Theatre Club, producer of the original cast recordings of City Of Angels and Carousel together with a national tour as Musical Director of The Sound Of Music and more recently What A Performance at the Theatre Royal, Plymouth.

His film work includes orchestrations for Shirley Valentine and Impromptu. Broadcasting credits include productions of Schweyk In The Second World War and Peter Pan for BBC Radio, Thompson (staring Emma Thompson), The Various Ends Of Mrs F's Friends, The Morte D' Arthur, Mrs Cappers Birthday and The Music Of The City, for the BBC Surgical Spirit, Second Thoughts, Charlie the Kid and Brighton Belles (the UK version of the Golden Girls) for Independent Television. Lace and LaceII for Lorimar and If Tomorrow Comes for CBS.

In addition to orchestrating and conducting for many leading recording artists, Chris often acts as record producer, particularly for cast recordings of shows with which he has been associated (notably Gigi, Cabaret, Follies and Brigadoon). His most recent production is a concert album in conjunction with Don Black and Geoff Stephens entitled Off the Wall.

His compositions include a musical based on Around The World In Eighty Days as well as four operas for children and incidental music for four productions at the Ludlow Shakespeare Festival.
