Based on the book by Henry Farrell, Warner Brothers legendary movie made in 1962 has now received cult status because of its creation of two monsters in the form of Jane and Blanche Hudson.

The fact that the movie also heralded the return of two Hollywood stars to the silver screen has also catapulted this title into the firmament of star vehicles.

However the association with the new musical began just eight years ago. The production office eventually tracked down the agents dealing with this particular theatrical property.

A few more months passed and the script and demonstration tape arrived from New York and from that time hence I was hooked. A musical version of this story began to make more sense. Here was this child star, Baby Jane Hudson, part of a showbiz background with a mother and younger sister watching from the wings, top in her field with the pushy father using her as a meal ticket. The rivalry between the two sisters as they go through adulthood, the fading of Jane's career as Blanche's blossoms in Hollywood movies.....it cried out for a score.
