The book to the musical made such an impression....at last a musical with a book to match the score and lyrics, so often the downfall of many a modern musical. However, this should not have come as a surprise as it was Henry Farrell who had written both the original novel as well as the musical.

The story of how these two warring harridans tortured each other in their own unique way was distressing yet entertaining. As with all horror movies one of the most important elements to creating the right atmosphere is the underscore.

Watch any thriller with the sound down and it is guaranteed you will not jump in the right places without the jagged screams from an orchestra instructing you when to react. This is where the musical comes into its own and Lee Pockriss is a master of colour and variety as shown in his composing. Best known for his incredibly popular melodies like Playground In My Mind to Catch a Falling Star for which he received a second Grammy nomination, Lee had the facility to cover the vast range of music required to encompass such a story.

Coupled to Lee was Hal Hackady whose ability to conjure pictures through lyrics is mindboggling. His wit and acute observation has given a score an added sparkle and excitement. Not surprisingly he has also been associated to many musicals on Broadway and the West End.

Henry Farrell was based in Los Angeles. He was well established as a short story writer and novelist as well as writing for the screen. A director was assigned in 1996 to work with the writers in the guise of American David Taylor.
